Judd Trump through to semi-finals in Wuhan

Oct 11,2024

Judd Trump edged past Chris Wakelin to reach the semi-finals of the Wuhan Open.

The world number one needed to come through a final-frame decider to clinch a 5-4 victory and maintain his unbeaten record against Wakelin.

Trump did not lead until clearing the colours in the final frame having trailed 3-1 and then 4-3.

"It was frustrating at times and especially in that last frame, where it looked like he was going to fluke a couple of balls and end up winning," said Trump on wst.tv.

"In the end, I took my chance and played a really good shot on the brown to knock the pink out.

"You are just relying on your opponent to miss. He did that in the last frame. There was a bit of pressure out there and he took his eye off the brown looking for an angle to get the pink out."

Trump is joined in the final four by three Chinese players and will take on Si Jiahui, who defeated Zhang Anda 5-3.

The other match will pit Xiao Guodong, a 5-1 winner over Shaun Murphy, against Long Zehuang, who saw off Jack Lisowksi by the same scoreline.
