Scotland: Unbeaten Aberdeen win again to go top

Nov 10,2024

Aberdeen moved to the top of the William Hill Premiership table after seeing off Dundee 4-1 at Pittodrie.

With Dons goalkeeper Dimitar Mitov having kept out a Simon Murray penalty late in the first half, Jimmy Thelin's side then scored twice early in the second through Ante Palaversa and Topi Keskinen.

Dundee hit back with a Murray effort in the 70th minute before Kevin Nisbet set up fellow substitute Vicente Besuijen to restore Aberdeen’s two-goal cushion two minutes later, then added a goal of his own in stoppage time.

A 10th win in their 11-game unbeaten start to the season takes them three points clear of Celtic, who go to Kilmarnock on Sunday, before Rangers – a further nine points behind in third – host Hearts.

Fourth-placed Dundee United and fifth-placed Motherwell both went level on points with Rangers after recording victories.

The Terrors secured an ultimately comfortable 3-0 win over Ross County at Tannadice, with Luca Stephenson, Sam Dalby and teenage substitute Owen Stirton scoring in the second half.

Motherwell beat St Johnstone 2-1 at Fir Park, where Jack Sanders had a stoppage-time equaliser disallowed by VAR.

After first-half goals from Tawanda Maswanhise and Tom Sparrow put the Steelmen in control, Nicky Clark pulled a goal back with a 58th-minute penalty.

St Johnstone then thought they were level when Sanders forced home from Graham Carey’s corner, but their celebrations were cut short when the VAR ruled the defender had used a hand.

Hibernian remain bottom of the pile after being beaten 2-1 at home by St Mirren, for whom Conor McMenamin netted a first-half double.

Hibs forward Martin Boyle had a penalty saved by Ellery Balcombe just after the hour, before Nicky Cadden netted one in stoppage time, then had the ball in the net again, only for it be ruled out for offside.

Having overseen just one win in 12 league matches and none in the last seven after taking charge at Hibs this summer, manager David Gray is in a seemingly precarious position heading into the international break.
