Republic of Ireland international Chiedozie Ogbene could be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after catching his foot in the turf during Ipswich Town's clash with Brentford, with Town manager Kieran McKenna stating it could be an "Achilles tear".
Ogbene had to be stretchered off the Gtech Community Stadium pitch in the build-up to Ipswich going 2-0 up in the first half, in what was a topsy-turvy encounter which the Bees won 4-3, thanks to a late Bryan Mbeumo goal.
On Ogbene's injury, McKenna offered a somewhat downbeat assessment, when saying: "It looks serious, unfortunately. It looks like it could be an Achilles tear, so that would be devastating for him and for us.
"That's what I’ve been told at the moment. We hope that won’t be the case but I think that’s what looks most likely.
"Is it a six-to-nine-month injury? You’ll have to get a medical opinion on that but an Achilles tear is a big injury, so we hope that it won’t be that but I think the consensus at the moment is that it is."
Ogbene, who has not been a regular starter for the Tractor Boys so far this term, was in from the off against his former club. The 27-year-old was forced off just after the half-hour mark.
Earlier this month the Corkman featured in the Republic of Ireland's Nations League games against Finland and Greece.
