Steven Poacher appointed Leitrim senior football manager

Oct 27,2024

Leitrim have moved on from the controversial departure of Mickey Graham by appointing Steven Poacher as their senior football manager for 2025.

While this is the Down native's first inter-county management gig, he comes with an impressive coaching CV, having previously been involved in backroom teams with Carlow and Roscommon.

He is the head of PE at St Joseph's in Newry and was recently managing St Mochta's, who made the semi-finals of the Louth SFC in his first year in charge. He has also coached Down underage teams at every level from Under-15 to Under-21.

His appointment will go some way to soothing jilted supporters in the Connacht county, who are deeply unhappy with how Graham was this week confirmed as a selector under Pádraic Joyce in Galway, weeks after he abruptly called time on his Leitrim tenure.

Poacher will be joined in his backroom team by former Carlow footballer Daniel St Ledger, Fermanagh legend Ryan Jones and Ulster title-winning Donegal coach Anthony McGrath, the former Queen's University Sigerson manager joining as a performance coach.
