Shelbourne snap up Daniel Kelly and Ellis Chapman

Dec 20,2024

League of Ireland Premier Division champions Shelbourne have announce the double signing of Daniel Kelly and Ellis Chapman.

Kelly, a dynamic winger known for his explosive pace and versatility, joins from Derry City.

The 28-year-old's experience in the League of Ireland includes five successful seasons with Dundalk, where he won the League of Ireland, FAI Cup and EA Sports Cup.

In 2024 the Dubliner made 26 appearances for Derry City, contributing one goal and five assists.

Kelly said: "I was over the moon to get the call, Shelbourne is a huge club and it will be a major honour to represent Shels, it’s particularly special because of the Ringsend connection. So many of my family and friends are Shels fans. It’s an ambitious group, and I’m excited to be apart of it."

Shelbourne manager Damien Duff said: "Daniel is a massive signing for the squad. He has a great honesty and enthusiasm in his character so he will fit brilliantly into a dressing room where he knows a lot of guys already.

"On the pitch he brings top speed to our play, something we have wanted to bring to our team for a long while. He is direct, wants to score goals and most importantly wants to win."

Ellis Chapman (R) in action for Sligo Rovers

Chapman, a talented midfielder with a commanding presence, joins the Reds from Sligo Rovers after an outstanding 2024 season where he made 34 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing four assists.

The 23-year-old has signed a long-term contract with Shels, becoming the third new arrival ahead of the season, following the signings of Kelly and Ryan O'Kane last month.

Before his time in the League of Ireland, Chapman honed his skills in the UK, playing for clubs such as Cheltenham Town, Oldham Athletic, Chesterfield, and his native Lincoln City, having come through Leicester City's academy.

Chapman said: "I am absolutely delighted to be here, I’m looking forward to playing for and representing everything all that Shelbourne football club is. Shels is a huge club which aligns with my ambitions. I can’t wait to meet everyone and play at the home of Tolka Park, the home of the champions."

Duff said: "I was very impressed with Ellis all last season and even more so when I had a meeting with him recently. He has a real football brain and sees the game so clearly for such a young man. Ellis can play a few positions but most importantly brings big stats.

"I am really excited to have him play here and to help him take his game to the next level. He is a great signing that will elevate the quality of the squad again."
