Derry City have signed free agent Northern Ireland international Shane Ferguson as Tiernan Lynch's squad continues to take shape ahead of the new season.
Ferguson has Premier League experience at Newcastle United and has represented his country on 57 occasions.
He arrives having spent the past few seasons at Rotherham United, while also lining out for Millwall and Birmingham City.
The 33-year-old has played nearly 200 games in the Championship, but has been a free agent since June with his last cap for Northern Ireland coming in May 2023.
He can play either at left-back or on the left-wing, which will help with the loss of Ciaran Coll to Glentoran.
The Eglinton man has agreed a one-year deal with the option of a second and says he can’t wait to get started after the Christmas break having overcome injury woes at the end of his Rotherham spell.
Ferguson said: "I’m delighted to be coming home and once I had spoken with Tiernan and heard his plans for the club, it was a simple decision.
"I’ve been training hard after a frustrating last season and I’m feeling very strong. I will really benefit now from a full pre-season and be ready to go when the new campaign starts.
"Derry City is obviously a club I know a bit about and I’m well aware of how passionate that support base is. I’m really looking forward to doing my bit to hopefully bring success to the Brandywell."
Ferguson becomes the third City signing of the week after Adam O’Reilly and Brian Maher with the manager suggesting there could be one or two more in the coming weeks.
