Katie Taylor loses WBC lightweight belt with Caroline Dubois promoted to champion

Dec 12,2024

Katie Taylor has vacated her WBC lightweight after a ruling at the body's convention today in Germany, with Caroline Dubois promoted to champion.

Taylor had been undisputed champion at lightweight before switching focus to super lightweight in her last three bouts.

She became undisputed at the heavier weight when avenging a loss to Chantelle Cameron and went on to defend the belts against Amanda Serrano in Texas.

It is the third lightweight title she had lost over inactivity with Beatriz Ferreira, who Kellie Harrington defeated in the Olympics semi-final earlier in the summer, currently IBF champion.

Terri Harper landed the WBO belt in September, while Dubois has secured the WBC crown now having been interim champion since August.

The WBC were keen to make a decision on the belt with Dubois in action again in January and is now officially the beltholder.

Ferreira will defend her title this weekend on the same card as Kildare boxer Gary Cully as he faces Maxi Hughes in Monaco.

It means Taylor just holds the WBA and Ring Magazine belts at lightweight.

Her next bout could be at either weight but a likely route is a third clash with Cameron or Serrano at super lightweight given they remain the most most-spinning opponents for the Bray boxer.
