Pádraig O'Hora adds to those stepping away from Mayo in 2025

Nov 27,2024

Following on from Cillian O'Connor's decision to opt out of the Mayo squad for 2025, defender Pádraig O'Hora will also be unavailable for next year.

However, similar to O'Connor, it is understood that the Ballina Stephintes clubman is not calling time on his inter-county career, leaving the door open for a possible return.

O'Hora's appearances in the green and red jersey were limited in 2024, making just two starts across league and championship.

The 31-year-old has been part of the Mayo squad since 2016 but only made his championship debut in 2020. The following year he starred as the westerners ended Dublin's long unbeaten run in the championship, with victory in the All-Ireland semi-final.

O'Hora recovered from a head injury to help Ballina retain their county title at the end of October, though they subsequently lost to Sligo's Coolera-Strandhill in the Connacht sem-final.

Michael Plunkett, James Carr and one of the reserve goalkeepers, Rory Byrne are others who won't be available to manager Kevin McStay in the season ahead.

Mayo begin their Division 1 league campaign away to Dublin on 25 January.
