Limerick senior hurling goalkeeper Nickie Quaid has suffered an ACL injury.
Quaid underwent a scan on Friday last that confirmed the news.
"We wish Nickie the very best in his recovery and assure him of our total support in the months ahead," said a statement from the Limerick management team.
Quaid recently won his third hurling All-Star award after yet another excellent campaign.
The Effin clubman has won five All-Ireland senior hurling medals, seven Munster championship titles and three National League medals.
Quaid has been in imperious form in the past number of years with his shot stopping, restarts, positioning and agility all out of the top drawer.
Limerick could now look to David McCarthy and Jason Gillane to fill the number one slot while Quaid recovers.
