Ronnie O'Sullivan was left stunned after Xiao Guodong staged a comeback from three frames down to advance to the Champion of Champions quarter-final in Bolton on a 4-3 scoreline.
The seven-time world champion found himself in front with the aid of breaks of 65, 95 and 125, while his Chinese opponent failed to pot a single ball across the first three frames.
Xiao began to charge back with a 130 break in the fourth before levelling the contest with breaks of 88 and 85 to force a deciding frame.
He nearly gave O’Sullivan an opening when he missed a straight red into the middle pocket.
But 'the Rocket’ could not finish the job and was unable to get the snooker he required when he left the green in the jaws of the corner pocket and conceded.
