Munster have added Garryowen's Gordon Wood to their first-year academy class, with the centre set to follow in the footsteps of his famous father at the province.
The 20-year-old is the son of former Munster and Ireland hooker Keith Wood, and links up with the province in an official capacity after impressing in development games and pre-season friendlies.
Wood has previously trained with Munster's extended squad, and lined out against Gloucester in pre-season, while he has also been involved in Munster A and Munster development games over the past 12 months.
After starting rugby with Ballina-Killaloe RFC as a child, Wood attended St Munchin's College in Limerick where he played in the Munster Schools Junior and Senior Cup, while he represented Munster at U18 and U19 level.
The centre made his Energia All Ireland League debut for his father's old club Garryowen in September 2023, and helped the Limerick club earn promotion back to Division 1A by scoring a try in the play-off final against Old Belvedere.
He has played every game for the Dooradoyle side in this season's AIL, where he is also joined by his older brother Alex, and younger brother Tom, in the squad.
He is the seventh player to be included in the province's Year 1 academy crop, with a total of 19 players in Munster's academy overall.
